Teacher Education in Drama

Teacher education programmes

The Academy of Music and Drama trains and educates music teachers for the elementary (basic) school level and sixth-form college. It also trains and educates drama teachers for sixth-form college. The teacher education programmes are taught in Swedish.

Drama teacher

The main aim of this programme is to train teachers for working in sixth-form colleges with the drama courses that are part of the aesthetic programme, with programme specialisations in other programmes and with individual choice courses.

Teacher education aims to provide students with broad and solid knowledge and skills concerning the their profession as teachers with drama as their starting point. It is naturally useful in a number of different pedagogical environments, such as for example municipal culture schools or folk high schools.

You can study Drama as a single subject or combined with another school subject. The programme includes a module shared by all teacher education students, the so-called pedagogical sciences core, and you will also participate in the equivalent of one term of teaching practice.
The total period of study is five years.

We meet Lina Larsson, student from the teacher education programme in Drama, during her internship at Nordiska folkhögskolan to find out more about her relation to theatre and why she wants to become a teacher. This video is in Swedish.
