Music Education for Elementary School

The course Music education for elementary school is aimed at students studying in the teacher education programme with a focus on work in a child daycare center or in grades 4-6. The course focuses on children's learning in music in the early ages.

The purpose of the course is to enable you as a student to develop the skills and knowledge required for your future career role.

Course content

Part 1 deals with theoretical concepts in music as well as different methods and modes of working, central to school music education. Basic education in singing, chord- and rhythm instruments are central, as well as didactic knowledge in relation to both governing documents and music education research.

In course 2 you will deepen your musical skills and your performing ability. You will learn to use different artistic, theoretical and didactic tools for children's music making and communication in relation to other forms of aesthetic expression. The place of music as a cultural expression in society and school is problematized in relation to issues of equality, gender equality and diversity.

You study in a creative and inspiring environment in the building Artisten.
