Apply for MA Opera

This information concerns applications to the Master's Programme in Opera. Please note that the programme is currently biannual and therefor will not accept new students beginning on the autumn semester 2020.

  1. Apply for the programme through www.universityadmissions.se
    Application period: 3 December 2018 – 15 January 2019
  2. Admission tests: 19–21 February 2019
  3. Admission decision: 4 April 2019 through www.universityadmissions.se

Admission tests

(The following applies to students starting autumn 2019)

The admission tests are carried out in three parts in front of a jury.

  1. For the auditions you should have prepared 4 arias from different eras, one of which should be staged.
You choose your first aria yourself. The jury might decide to let you perform an additional song from your repertoire list. All arias shall be performed by heart.
Only applicants who pass the first selection are called to the second part.

  2. Part two of the auditions starts with a movement class. This test can not be prepared. Wear clothing suitable for movement. There are dressing rooms for changing available. After this test you will perform the staged aria from your list. If you wish, we can supply some simple props or someone to act as your counterpart in your aria performance.
Round 3 is only for applicants who have passed part 2.
  3. Round 3 starts with unprepared group improvisation.
Finally, you are asked to sing an aria from your repertoir list, selected by the jury. Which aria that is will be announced at the same time as the results from audition part 2. If the jury so wishes, they will choose one more aria from the repertoire list.

  • Eligibility and selection

    Entry requirements

Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.

Selection is based upon admission tests. In the admissions tests, an admissions group assesses the applicants' eligibility for education, based on a ranking.

  • Scholarships

Applicants who are citizens in countries outside the EU/EEA (or Switzerland), and who are required to pay tuition fees, are encouraged to apply for scholarships. Some scholarships will cover either the full cost of the tuition fees for the programme, or a significant part of that fee.

Make sure that you read the application instructions carefully and that you understand when the application should be submitted (some scholarships require that you apply before you are admitted to the programme).
