Apply for MA Improvisation

This information concerns the Master Programme in Music, with specialization in Improvisation Performance – The Composing Musician, (NoCoM Joint Study Programme).

  1. Apply for the programme through www.universityadmissions.se
    Application period: 3 December 2018 – 15 January 2019
     
  2. Submit your portfolio through SlideRoom
    All material is submitted: 3 December 2018 – 1 February 2019
     
  3. Interview: Week 9, 2019
     
  4. Admission decision: 4 April 2019 through www.universityadmissions.se

Portfolio

(The following applies to students starting autumn 2019)

Selection of eligible applicants is based upon assessments of submitted portfolios and proposals. All applicants are requested to send in:

  1. Proposal for an independent masters project, 4000–5000 characters long, is required, including title of project, problem statement, method for artistic and/or scientific development/research, and references to related projects.
  2. A live recorded video presentation of your music and yourself as a musician. NB! The video should contain 15–20 minutes of music.

Interview

After reading and listening to the material you have submitted, we invite a limited amount of selected applicants to come to Gothenburg for an interview, or to participate in an interview via telephone or other digital medium. This interview is mandatory for all selected applicants.

  • Submit your portfolio

    Your portfolio material i submitted through our digital service SlideRoom: applyartsgu.slideroom.eu
    SlideRoom closes at midnight on the last submission day. After that it is not possible to submit your material. After you submit your portfolio, you will receive a confirmation email from SlideRoom.

    NOTE! Material you have uploaded to SlideRoom can no longer be edited or deleted.

    For the purpose of handling and reviewing work samples, we use an external service provided by SlideRoom Technologies Inc. By using the service, you agree that the University of Gothenburg may handle your personal data and material submitted via SlideRoom in order to evaluate your application for education. The material you upload remains with SlideRoom until you choose to remove it from their servers.

  • Eligibility and selection

    Entry requirements

    Bachelor degree of arts in music or equivalent, and musical knowledge and skills that are assessed at the admission test and are the basis for selection. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.

    Selection

    Selection of eligible applicants is based upon entrance tests.

  • Tuition fees

    Students with citizenship in countries not within the EU/EEA, or Switzerland, are required to pay application and tuition fees for university studies in Sweden. Details about fees for this programme are available on the University of Gothenburg main website under Education/Courses and Programmes.

  • Scholarships

    Applicants who are citizens in countries outside the EU/EEA (or Switzerland), and who are required to pay tuition fees, are encouraged to apply for scholarships. Some scholarships will cover either the full cost of the tuition fees for the programme, or a significant part of that fee.

    Make sure that you read the application instructions carefully and that you understand when the application should be submitted (some scholarships require that you apply before you are admitted to the programme).
