BA Acting

Actor training is a three-year bachelor’s programme that provides the necessary technical knowledge and individualised working methods to prepare you for an acting career. Several practical projects give you opportunities to apply the methods and techniques you learn during your studies. Our teachers follow your progress and guide you as you develop. Close contacts with the industry through guest instructors who are professionally active and an entire semester’s work experience will develop and broaden your skills and provide you with a wide network of contacts during your studies. Today, our former students are active throughout theatre, film and television and often appear in prominent roles.

The programme is taught in Swedish.

Professional areas

We train actors for performances in the theatre, film and television, for instance.

The programme in acting is offered in parallel with programmes in music and teaching is integrated in a number of courses during the first year of study.

The programme includes courses in stage performance, voice and music training, physical training as well as television, film and other elements intended to provide the knowledge and skills required for students’ future performances.

One semester of supervised placement is included. The theoretical courses offer basic knowledge about the history of drama and music, drama theory, stage drama and foreign drama and also about cultural policy in Sweden and Sweden’s cultural life.

All teaching is compulsory. Timetabled teaching varies from about 20 to 40 hours per week depending on which stage the programme has reached. About half of the time is devoted to stage performance, which is the major subject.

During the first year technique training involves basic voice, music and movement exercises that focus directly on stage performance.
Stage performance involves basic acting training and also practice rehearsals.

In the second year of the programme techniques are studied at a more advanced level. In stage performance greater demands are made of stylistic and formal awareness. Stage performance includes projects on dramatic works as well as instruction in acting for the camera.

During the third year students undertake a theatre placement. This placement is decided after discussions between the programme, the student and the theatre envisaged for the placement. During the placement the student is required to work as a member of the ensemble during its rehearsals and performances. On completion of the placement the student and the teacher sum up their shared experiences of the placement period before the conclusion of the programme.

The final semester is devoted to radio theatre and to work on a complete production.
