MA Music Drama

This master's programme is aimed at those who have a few years of professional experience from the fields of opera or musical, and who wish to enhance their knowledge and proficiency as a performing artist. You apply for the programme with a project which runs through the whole programme. You have time and the opportunity to develop as an artist and to deepen your specific form of expression.You study alongside students from the master programmes in acting and Contemporary Performative Arts in several courses. The programme prepares students for postgraduate studies.
This programme is taught in English.

Contents of the Programme

Individual Project (60 higher education credits)

The student carries out their own project based on a specific issue or theme. The course runs during the two years and is presented both in writing and in writing. One aspect of the course is to work with experimental forms for academic and artistic writing. In the course of the project, the student is given support through individual tutoring, seminars, workshops and a lab forum where the projects are regularly processed in feedback sessions together with the master's programme in Contemporary Performative Arts and the master's programme in Theater. This part of the programme clearly connects to artistic research in the field and is conducted in Swedish and English.

The courses aim at challenging the student's exploratory projects with new perspectives and perspectives, such as reflection on a surrounding society and their own practices, films as tools and other working artists' working methods.

The courses aim to deepen the student's investigative projects and deepen the knowledge of academic and artistic writing in relation to their own and others practice. As well as putting their project in relation to public space and building a base for how the student can communicate around his project to a local and global field of work.

The Setting

The learning environment at the Academy of Music and Drama is unique for higher education in Scandinavia in offering first and second-cycle programmes for musicians, composers, opera singers, musical artistes and actors alongside each other. It also has research programmes in the fine, applied and performing arts. A staff of distinguished teachers that includes professors with research or artistic qualifications as well as senior lecturers and lecturers can guarantee the high artistic and educational standards of the programme. The academy is also a member of an international network of higher education programmes in opera and musicals.

Premises

The programmes that involve drama jointly share two theatres, one of them a musical theatre, five drama studios, two dance and movement studios, as well as a number of vocal and drama rehearsal rooms.
