This information concerns the Master Programme in Music, with specialization in Improvisation Performance - The Composing Musician, (NoCoM Joint Study Programme).

Application period

The application period for autumn term 2018 will be from 1 December 2017 until 15 January 2018. Apply via www.universityadmissions.se.

Requirements, Selection and Application Process (applied for 2017)

Entrance Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in the fine or applied arts, a professional qualification of at least 180 higher education credits, at least three years of approved full-time studies in a programme for musicians or equivalent and special requirements that comprise musical skills. Students may be admitted to the programme without having basic eligibility in the form of a degree.


Selection of eligible applicants is based upon assessments of submitted portfolios and proposals. All applicants are requested to send in

  1. A proposal for an independent masters project, a minimum of three A4 pages is required, including title of project, problem statement, method for artistic and/or scientific development/research, and references to related projects. We want to read your carefully written thoughts on the project you wish to develop and/or the direction you want your studies to take.
  2. Audio and/or video presentation of your music and yourself as a musician. NB! A minimum of 15 minutes of music is requried.

The proposal and portfolio must be received by the Academy of Music and Drama no later than the 16th of January 2017. We only accept submitted material via the institution's online application system (DAP). The online application system opens for submission 1 December 2016.

After reading and listening to the material you have submitted, we invite a limited amount of selected applicants to come to Gothenburg for an audition and an interview. This live audition is compulsory for all selected applicants.
We look forward to hearing from you and meeting you!


Auditions will be held at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg 1 March 2017.

The audition tests include:

  1. A selection of repertoire, including improvisation, of the student's own choice, on his or her main instrument, of approximately 15 minutes duration.
  2. Interview and discussion on the applicants "proposal", approximately 15 minutes duration.

The results will be made public in the second week of April 2017 on www.universityadmissions.se.

Fees and scholarships

Applicants from countries within the EU as well as Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland will be admitted free of charge.
Applicants from other countries will be charged tuition fees.

The possibility exists for students obliged to pay fees to apply for scholarships from the University of Gothenburg to cover part of their fees and living costs.
