Church music

This programme can provide a basis for further study at master's level. The programme is taught in Swedish.

Professional areas

We train church musicians who on completion of the programme can be employed as musicians in a parish. Other forms of employment are also possible such as free lance engagements or teaching in the educational system. The programme can provide a basis for further study in the Academy or other programmes in music.

Contents

Major subject (90 higher education credits)
The focus of the programme is the major subject (with organ as a solo instrument or singing/choirmaster). The degree project (15 higher education credits) is integrated with the major subject.
Tuition in the solo instrument is offered both individually and in the form of seminars, workshops and master classes.

Basic course in music (67.5 higher education credits)
For students whose major subject is singing/choirmaster the emphasis in the basic course in music is on organ subjects, while for students whose major subject is the organ the focus is on vocal music.
The basic course in music also includes courses such as music theory/counterpoint, ear training, music and society, ecclesiastical history, stage concerts, future professional roles, ethics and multimedia.

Personal profile (22.5 higher education credits)
The personal profile element in the programme provides scope for in-depth or wider study of specific subject areas.

Degree

Bachelor of Music with specialization in Church Music Performance, 180 higher education credits.
